Libby and Harry’s wedding at the Royal Chapel Windsor – what a gorgeous ceremony! And when they follow that with a joyful wedding celebration at the famous Wentworth Club Surrey, you know it’s going to be a fantastic wedding. Catching up with them after the big day, we ask them the definitive questions about their wedding day and their wedding planning.
The Proposal Story: Tell us about your proposal
Harry proposed on the 7th May 2016. It was the 11th anniversary of being together, and we were having a lovely walk in the Punch Bowl in Windsor Great Park. It’s full of beautiful flowers at that time of year. Harry took me to a secluded spot and bent down on one knee to ‘pop the question’. I cried all the way through and naturally I said yes! And afterwards? Champagne at Wentworth Club Surrey of course! The day after we actually flew to Portugal to a relaxing spa. But, I was so excited I spent most of the time looking at different wedding ideas online!
Did you have any difficulty finding inspiration for your wedding day?
Harry is half Greek so it was important to us to include aspects of his cultural heritage in some way. We were very fortunate that we were able to add Greek touches to the day such as the Greek dancing. The photos of the Greek dancing are amazing! It’s such an energetic expression of joy and happiness. We’re glad to say that everyone got involved. I’m sure with all its history, Wentworth Club Surrey has seen some celebrations. But we think maybe Greek dancing doesn’t happen that often!
Dancing celebrations are always good fun to photograph. And yours was awesome! – Kevin at Scott-Wood Photography
What was your favourite moment of your wedding day?
Our entire day was amazing! But, if we have to pick a moment it has to be entering the ballroom to see all our friends and family standing and applauding.
How did your wedding day represent you both?
Both venues made the day for us. And naturally, it was important for us to get married somewhere that meant something to us. Being able to get married in the Royal Chapel was such an honour. Harry was a choirboy there! So, to hold our wedding in the Royal Chapel where the Queen worships and where Harry sang as a choirboy is truly amazing. The chapel is so beautiful and intimate.
Wentworth Club Surrey is also very special for Harry and I. Harry is a longstanding member there – since the age of ten! And, we both have many fond memories of good times there. To have had our reception there amongst staff that we know so well means the world to us.
It was also a real privilege to be able to have some of our photos taken on the famous golf course. We love the one of us walking across the green in front of the club. It’s magical.
Libby, your dress from Maggie Sottero at Windsor and Eton Bride is gorgeous. It’s contemporary and elegant and we love it! – Rowena at Scott-Wood Photography
What’s the funniest memory of your day?
There are so many funny moments to remember. However, the two that stand out are both during the dance celebrations. My (Libby’s) father running to the dance floor as soon as the Rolling Stones played – absolutely priceless. I‘ve never seen him move so fast! It’s particularly impressive given his two hip replacements. Also we must mention Cheryl, our waitress. She is a valued member of staff at Wentworth Club Surrey and everyone adores her. Seeing her hitting the dance floor and getting involved – what can I say? She’s fantastic. A proper dancing queen!
Can you share with us any particular challenges or triumphs from your day?
The food! A massive triumph! Our wedding buffet was all laid out so beautifully. And we were lucky enough to have a Greek chef, John Kouphou who is head chef at Wentworth Club Surrey! So naturally a lot of Greek style food featured in the buffet offerings.
Is there one special piece of advice that you can give to other wedding couples?
For me as a bride, our best source of advice was my sister-in-law. So, for example when deciding who to invite she said to us to think about whether you would ask those same people out for dinner. Such great advice! Also, she recommended Kevin at Scott-Wood Photography as our wedding photographer!
From a photography perspective, are there any tips that you can give to couples when choosing a wedding photographer?
One thing that we love about our photos is that we are able to re-live the day through them. They’re natural photos capturing the moments of laughter, tears, joy and all the fun. It’s great to have a few portrait photos, but it’s the natural, unposed photographs that hold the memories for us. We encourage other couples to consider a wedding photojournalist to capture their day. Kevin at Scott-Wood Photography is a master at this style of photography!
Do you have a favourite photograph from your day?
This is so difficult as we love so many of them! Probably our favourite of us together is where Harry and I look at each other as we are about to head to the front of the Chapel for the confetti throwing. With or bridesmaids following us it is lovely.
