A British Obsession….The Weather (Especially When There’s A Wedding A Round The Corner)
Let’s face it we ‘Brits’ are always talking about the weather and when it comes to planning a wedding the weather suddenly takes on a more malevolent form waiting in the shadows, conspiring to make sure that you experience all four seasons the moment you step out of the car/church/venue on your day; but you know what? You can’t control it! It’s one of those things that you just have to manage and not worry about….
Carpe Diem…
Yes, seize the day! Pick the day that you want to get hitched and plan accordingly. For all seasons have umbrella’s at the ready. We all know it can be sunny at 1 p.m. and raining at 1.15 p.m.! My experience is that the end of May and into June can be particularly capricious with the added excitement of thunder and lightning and as for Bank Holidays…need I say more? Winter does generally bring more rain with snow sometimes putting in an appearance.
Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining….Or, How Rain On Your Wedding Day Still Means Great Photographs
Rain Rocks! Think about it, when you see great TV shows or magazines featuring ultra stylish interiors, or visit a trendy restaurant how many of them feature in the background fabulous black and white cinematic style prints, often with romantic couples laughing, singing and kissing in the rain? The answer is A LOT!
Keep Calm…And Embrace The Rain
John Ruskin once said ‘there is really no such thing as bad weather only different kinds of good weather’ so my advice is go with the flow. But, if you’re still struggling to visualise how you can have fun and get great images on a rainy day here’s my top 5 essentials on how to get those amazing cinematic images:
Book a wedding photographer that knows how to work with rain and poor light.
Umbrella’s Up!
Use the ‘brollies’ to your advantage – one of my favourite shots is of guests forming a guard of honour with them as they poise to throw confetti and of all the guests walking to the reception venue under a sea go green umbrella’s.
Romance in the Rain….
Think moody skies and soft rain and the chance for a romantic walk ‘Parisian Style’. I have a lovely image of a romantic kiss between bride and groom glimpsed under their umbrella as they pause for a moment on the bridge over the lake…..
Something to Reflect Upon…
With rain comes puddles and the chance for great reflection shots and even the smallest splash of water can provide a great photograph opportunity…
Dance, Sing, Walk, Run…
Have fun – it’s the biggest celebration of your life and there won’t be many other times when there is such a valid reason to let everyone know about it, even if it is raining. Don’t worry the dress will clean and you’ll dry off in the dancing….and you can always wear funky wellies (or bare feet if you’re brave) to avoid soggy shoes……
