My first experience of Home House Private Members Club, London was incredible. As the photographer for a styled wedding photoshoot, it was a unique opportunity to get to know the venue. I loved it from the minute I walked through the door.
From the outside, Home House looks like any handsome townhouse in London. But look closer. N° 20 Portman Square is a Robert Adam masterpiece. A celebrated architect in the 18th Century, it’s his finest surviving London town house. Designed by him for the Countess of Home, it is stunning….a gorgeous mix of original architecture and contemporary interior design.
As a creative Wedding Photographer I always look for features that are unique to a venue. This luxury venue is without a doubt the most unique that I’ve photographed. The theme for our wedding photoshoot was ‘When Bond Got Married’. A fictional foray into Bond’s wedding; it was styled by Alexandra Wood of AW Bespoke, Savile Row. How fitting it seemed that Home House has in its history a tangible link to the murky world of espionage.
Our sources at Home House tell us that the house was once ‘home’ to the Courtauld Institute of Art. What’s the significance? Its director for many years was the art historian and infamous spy, Anthony Blunt. His equally infamous compatriots Philby, Burgess and Maclean were regular visitors and, MI5 even concealed a listening device in the connecting wall between N° 20 and N° 21 Portman Square’. Wow…how very Bond!
The house has a ‘masculine’ feel that complements its opulence. You can’t fail to be in awe of the Imperial staircase that rises through the entire height of the house. The glass dome at its top reveals the sky above. Just beautiful, and perfect for wedding portraits.
Away from wedding photography I often do architectural and interior photography. No surprise then that I was completely smitten with Home House and its glorious interior.
So, aside from it being an amazing building, why should you choose it as the venue for your London Wedding? Here are my top seven reasons why Home House Private Members Club is a perfect choice for your wedding:
Oh, and if you want to see something special, take a look at the Countess’s Etruscan State Bedroom. It’s one of the most architecturally important rooms in England. I won’t spoil the surprise. Just go see it for yourself.
What more can I say but that Home House is an amazing place……………….PS: You can see more of our styled shoot featured on 5 Star Wedding Directory. Enjoy!
