Later on in June I will be the wedding photographer for Niki and Chris’s summer wedding at Fanhams Hall and they chose their venue as the location for their Pre-Wedding Shoot earlier on this month.
As with most couples they were initially ‘nervous’ and if I had a pound coin for every time a client said I don’t like having my photograph taken I would be a rich man indeed! The secret is of course to get people to RELAX!
So how do I achieve this mythical relaxation in front of the lens? For me the secret to helping people to relax is to echo my mantra of ‘be inspired…be you’, in other words I help you to be yourself during your Pre-Wedding Shoot and ultimately on your big day.
Believe me when I say I WON’T:
Ask you to do anything that you are uncomfortable with. This includes asking you to jump, skip or run if you are not inclined to do so naturally.
Ask you to ‘smile for the camera’. Sure, I might tell you a story or pass on an anecdote that I hope may make you laugh and thus relax but it isn’t compulsory.
Ask you to strike a pose that just isn’t ‘you’. If you aren’t a tactile couple I won’t expect you to suddenly ‘feel the love’ when you are out and about with your photographer.
Remember ‘be inspired…be you’!
Expect you to dress up in any particular way. Yes, aesthetically it can be very pleasing to be in matching jeans and a white shirt but it isn’t for everyone (my wife would recoil in horror at the thought of having to wear jeans at any time let alone for a photo shoot, casual not exactly being her style). Yes, it is fantastic when a couple decide to choose a glamorous location like Paris for a pre-wedding shoot and arrive looking serene in Chanel pumps and fitted dress but it is just as much fun when a couple arrive in wellingtons and wet weather gear. Why? Because each couple is comfortable with the clothes and environment that they are in, even if they aren’t entirely comfortable in front of a camera lens!
Last but not least, whilst I may suggest a comfortable way to stand or lean into each other for a few (and I mean few!) more intimate shots I won’t expect you to replicate that on the wedding day unless you want to.
Be yourself and I will do the rest……………….to ensure you have fabulous memories of one truly amazing day.
