A week ago I had the immense pleasure of photographing the wedding of Hanako and Roger at Suffolk wedding Venue Hengrave Hall. In a day that embraced both eastern and western cultures Hanako and Roger started their day with a civil ceremony at which Hanako wore the traditional Japanese Kimono. I was incredibly privileged to witness Hanako being prepared to wear her vintage Kimono, (kindly loaned by a family friend who wore it herself when she was a young woman) in a time honoured dressing ritual and I think I exhausted half my supply of memory cards during the preparations! It was as though time had stood still as Hanako stood proudly with her parents also in traditional dress – as a photojournalist I wouldn’t normally ‘do formal’ but such is the tradition of the Japanese ceremonial dress I just felt it was the right and respectful thing to do and I have to say I am pleased with the results and equally pleased with a more ‘avant-garde’ group shot taken in the grand hallway using my 14-24mm f2.8 lens.
