A beautiful backdrop creates the perfect setting, so when you look back at your photographs in years to come, you fall in love with it all over again. We take a look at the top reasons to choose Cornwall as your destination, considered one of the most beautiful counties in the UK:
If you’re looking for the ‘wow-factor’, channel your inner Demelza Poldark with the wild granite cliffs of North Cornwall, set against an expansive horizon of aquamarine and vivid blue seas and soft sandy beaches. The natural coastal light in Cornwall is unbeatable for wedding photography and perfect for a wildly romantic pre-wedding shoot.
Perhaps you’re looking for somewhere with a little more country-cottage-chic? Cornwall has it all with ultra-chic venues surrounded by lush countryside, adorned with delicate wild flowers and dazzling green fields from April through to September.
Cornwall’s breathtakingly natural surroundings offer the perfect setting for your wedding.
Cornwall is mostly surrounded by sea and its location on the eastern edge of the Gulf Stream means it very rarely falls below freezing in the winter months.
Summer temperatures often reach between 21°C – 30°C, and with well over 1,500 hours of sunshine forecast annually. That’s just over 200 more hours than ‘up country’ in London (much as we love the busy metropolis now and then!)
Cornwall has a burgeoning community of small, local artisanal businesses ready to make your one amazing day just that – amazing. They’ll go that one step further to add those extra little touches that make your wedding day unique.
There’s also a strong community network in the South West, meaning it’s likely your suppliers will know each other and be able to collaborate, helping to make those planning stages a lot less stressful. One of the best wedding planners in Cornwall is the lovely Lester Gethings who has organised some of the most gorgeous weddings in Cornwall, London and beyond, and we love Wadebridge Flowers round the corner from us at Hawksfield. Alex and her husband (a Chelsea Flower Show Award Winner) have created stunning arrangements for wedding and location shoots alike at some of the most gorgeous venues in the South West.
Together we can help you with coordinating your day to ensure we find the best opportunities for taking memorable photographs you can be proud of.
If you hadn’t already noticed, Cornwall is a bit of a foodie ‘hot spot’. The fish is fresh off the boat, asparagus and strawberries just picked from local fields. When it comes to toasting your nuptials, there are some of the best vineyards in the country here. We love the white Constantine from Trevibban Vineyard, and Cornwall is practically awash with local gin makers! Not surprisingly there are some great caterers to pull together a delicious menu for your day. One of our favourites is Fee’s Food in Rock. Their smoked Haddock Rarebit is divine…… the hardest part will be deciding what food to choose for your wedding celebrations!
The County’s strong mining heritage has impacted the landscape in many beautiful ways; iconic mining buildings still stand resolute and the stately homes built by aristocratic mine owners now echo with voices celebrating gorgeous weddings.
Dreamy Boconnoc House is one of our favourites with its own ancient church for your ceremony and stunning grounds, whilst Pengenna Manor close to Rock is another. Both offer some incredible photographic opportunities, especially in the gentle light of a spring afternoon or a summer sunset. Romance in spades…
And if it’s a beachside wedding that you’re looking for, we love Lusty Glaze Beach for a chic, relaxed wedding vibe, and who wouldn’t love the luxury eco-style Scarlet Hotel above beautiful Mawgan Porth? Voted one of the top 20 hotels in the UK by Condé Nast, you can have an intimate elopement celebration or hire the whole place for a grand wedding bash.
Before you jet off to your well-deserved Caribbean odyssey or Mediterranean sojourn, Cornwall is perfect for a mini-moon after your wedding. Relax, unwind and indulge in a luxury hideaway in the countryside, or a chic beachside romantic cabin. We love the offerings from Unique Home Stays and Boutique Retreats.
Many venues can also offer a few extra nights as part of your wedding booking, but with plenty of options and beautiful destinations to choose from, you can be sure you’ll find the perfect location for you.
So now we’ve persuaded you to have your wedding in gorgeous wild Cornwall, how about we photograph your day for you?
We’d love to hear from you and talk through your day. Send me an email or call 0370 626 5200 to get the ball rolling.
