Although my journal is primarily concerned with showing each couple’s wedding photography and telling a story from their day I do occasionally like to involve the bride and groom in that process. So, I asked Andy and Mandy, who got married recently at the wonderful Cambridgeshire Wedding Venue The Old Bridge Hotel Huntingdon, if they would be kind enough to tell us about the memories of their day and how they planned it.
When and where did the ‘proposal’ happen?
Like all good proposals, it happened in the bedroom! On one Sunday morning I asked Mandy if she would like to get engaged and in a ‘blokey’ sort of a way, not really thinking about the next step.
Any way I was delighted when she said yes but it was quite a while after that when we started talking about dates to marry that we decided on Friday the 13th of June. Mainly because it was 4 years to the day since we first met
What made you choose the Old Bridge Hotel as your venue?
We looked at a few wedding venues in the area but typically we came back to the Old Bridge Hotel, which was the first place that we looked at. We liked the fact that everything could be done under one roof, in very pleasant surroundings and in an establishment with a good reputation locally for their food and service. It also offered very good value compared to some venues that wanted an extortionate amount of money just to hire a barn or a marquee stuck in the middle of nowhere.
We wanted to share the day with our family and closest friends in an intimate setting and The Old Bridge proved to be perfect.
Did you have a favourite part of the day and if so can you tell us a little bit about it?
The favourite part of my day (Andy) has got to be split between first setting eyes on Mandy when she entered the ceremony room and taking her hand on the dance floor for the first dance. Followed closely by listening to my son Adam deliver his best man speech.
For Mandy it was me taking her hand when she stood next to me as the wedding ceremony began and her very nervous brother, bursting with pride! Trying to find the words to deliver his speech as everything he had lovingly prepared had just flown out the window! So many wonderful elements of our day! We were both very proud of our bridesmaids, they were just gorgeous!
Was there anything that you would have done differently for your day?
We can’t think of anything that we would have done differently and we have had lovely feedback from everyone who attended saying what a perfect day it was.
And finally, what advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
Our advice to other couples would be just do what you want to do in your hearts and don’t be influenced by others. Plan ahead and list everything that needs to be done, don’t leave things until the last minute and enjoy your day!
What comes across in the interview is just how much Mr and Mrs Peck planned their wedding around their families and I think the love and emotion shared by both families hopefully comes across in the images that I have chosen to show what their day was about.
